Windows Easy Transfer
Migrates files and settings from one system to another system
Introduction
Windows Easy Transfer (WET) provides an easy platform to migrate files and settings from one system to another. This section provides the steps and instructions on the migration from a system running Windows XP / Windows Vista to a new system running Windows 7 using Windows Easy Transfer.
System Requirements
Windows XP with Service Pack 3 or above
Pre-installation Check
Backup all your important data and save them to a safe location before upgrade.
The following list provides a few suggestions to backup your data:
- Windows Backup, or other backup software
- Copy data to a network folder
- Burn data to a CD or DVD
- Backup to an external hard disk
Before starting the migration, please ensure that you have the administrator rights to backup all users’ data.

Remarks:

You cannot use WET to move program files as WET can only move data and program settings. You must install your software
programs on the new system.
WET also does not transfer any system files such as fonts and drivers. To do this, you must install custom fonts and updated
drivers again in the new system.

1) Backup your file and settings in your original system using WET

Backup using WET
| 1.2.1 |
Login with an account that has administrator rights.

Plug in external USB drive to the system that you want to backup from.

For Windows XP system, launch WET by clicking Start -> All Programs -> Windows Easy Transfer.

For Windows Vista system, launch WET by clicking Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Windows Easy Transfer. (Figure B)

Click "NEXT"

Select “Use a CD, DVD, or other removable media“

Select “External hard disk or to a network location”

Input path to USB drive and name the .MIG file. Click “Next”

Select “All user accounts, files and settings”

Click “Transfer”

WET has created the migration file on the USB drive and you are now ready for the Windows 7 clean installation.

Disconnect the USB drive.

2) Restore your files and setting to the new system using WET

Plug in the external USB drive to the system after the Windows 7 upgrade.
Launch WET by clicking Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Windows Easy Transfer.

After launching WET, click “Next” at the “Welcome to Windows Easy Transfer” screen.

Select “An external hard disk or USB flash drive”.

Select “This is my new computer”.

Select “Yes”.

Browse and Open the WET file you created in the Capture Windows XP image step.

Click “transfer”.

The transfer will now begin.

At the “Choose what to transfer…” screen, select “See what transferred” to review the transfer report and then close the window.

At the “Choose what to transfer…” screen, click “close”.

Restart your computer to complete the transfer process.
Note: You have to reset the login password of restored user account after migration.
