LifeBook S series FAQs - Hardware
Q1 Infra red port is blocked when my LifeBook S7010 is docked on the port replicator. Can I still use my infra-red port?
A1 The infrared port of S7010 does not need a line of sight for it to function. It has a diffused radius and will work with devices beaming to it at 30 degrees.

Q2 I want to disable Wireless LAN and Bluetooth device separately.
A2 Use the radio control software to disable Wireless LAN and Bluetooth device separately. Follow the following steps:

control panel->other control options-> radio control

->Select which wireless device you would like to disable

Q3 I bought a new S6130b in Singapore and it came with Intel Wireless 2100 3b and Bluetooth as standard. I would like to upgrade to 802.11g Mini PCI Card. Is there a way to do this?
A3 The current Wireless LAN card comes with 11b. An 11g upgrade is unavailable.

Q4 How do I activate the IR port on my S6130 laptop. I would like to update my handphone software via the IR port.
A4 Once you place your handphone to the IR port of S6130, it will detect the handphone and an icon will pop-up on the taskbar to show that there is a handphone connected to your S6130. You have to install the handphone application on your mobile before you can transfer or update an application to your mobile.

Q5 Do you have a patch that turns off the "num" key of my LifeBook S6120 keyboard because I am using an external "num" keypad.
A5 Please enter BIOS setup by pressing F2 key on your keyboard once the system power on. Select Advanced, select Keyboard/Mouse Featured, select to turn the "NumLock" to "Off".

Q6 My LifeBook S-4540 is installed with 128MB RAM. Does this model support the 256M RAM module? If so, is there any restriction with regards to the RAM module (e.g. PC-100 or PC-133)?
A6 The maximum memory supported by this model is 256MB using PC-100 MHz. We advise you to purchase the additional memory chip from original reseller of Fujitsu LifeBook.

Q7 My LifeBook S-4562 does not have the Ethernet adapter, but my university requires us to use this Internet card when we access the Internet. Please let me know if my laptop has such hardware support. I have tried downloading the drive from your web, but to no avail.
A7 Please check under 'Network Adapter' in 'Device Manager' whether any Intel LAN adapter has been installed. In the BIOS Setup, please check if the LAN adapter is disabled. If it is, set it to 'Enable'.

(Note: Default BIOS setting for LAN is set to "AUTO" mode, which means that the LAN adapter will be enabled when either one of two conditions is fulfilled: Firstly, when AC Adapter's power is connected; or secondly, when the LAN cable is connected and LAN connection is detected. The purpose of the 'AUTO' mode setting is to conserve battery energy.)

Q8 The specification for 'Mobile Slot' states that it is a 'Combo Drive/DVD Drive'. Does that mean I should select one of them?
A8 A combo drive supports both the DVD and CD-R/RW functions. Hence with a combo drive, the LifeBook can be used to view DVD movies, listen to Audio CD, write and re-write data to a CD-R/RW disk, etc.
