LifeBook S series FAQs - Drivers
Q1 Why do I need to upgrade the Intel Turbo Memory Driver on my LifeBook S6410 from version 1.01 to version 1.1?
A1 With Intel Turbo Memory Driver version 1.01, you may be able to see the NVCACHE drive under the My Computer. The NVCACHE drive is only a flash memory. The stored data may be lost after system reboot. You are suggested to upgrade to the version 1.1. Then, the NVCACHE drive will be invisible. You will not accidentally store your data in this flash memory and lead to data lost.

Q2 I can find the NVCACHE drive on my LifeBook S6410 after system recovery and swapping the hard disk. What should I do??
A2 You should not store any data in NVCACHE drive, and you need to re-install the Intel Turbo Memory version 1.1.
Q3 When will the Intel Turbo Memory Driver version 1.1 be available?
A3 Intel Turbo Memory Driver version 1.1 will be available at the beginning of July2007.
Q4 I am reinstalling Windows 98/ ME on my LifeBook S-4546/45 and I have an unknown device listed?
A4 The ACPI device in some of the LifeBook S-4546/45 series is not automatically found. If you have installed all devices such as Modem, Audio and Video Controller, it is probably the ACPI device that is the unknown device listed. The ACPI device driver is available in the Drivers and Utilities CD supplied.

Q5 My computer keeps crashing. Where can I download a new driver for my LifeBook S-4562 (Win 2000), or can get new BIOS for my LifeBook?
A5 This model comes with the latest BIOS and it is not advisable to upgrade the BIOS. All the W2K drivers can be found from our website: http://www.pc-ap.fujitsu.com/techsupp/ or from the Software Driver CD. Some drivers will be detected by the OS itself. After installation of W2K, install all the drivers and utilities.

Q6 I just installed an external mouse driver (Logitech) onto my LifeBook S-4562 which subsequently disabled the scroll buttons of the touchpad. After uninstalling the Logitech driver it reverted back to the normal mouse driver under the control panel, not the touchpad driver. Is there any way I can recover the use of the scroll functions of the touchpad?
A6 Yes. Reinstall the Touch Pad driver again using the software driver CD. From the mouse, select Update Driver and point it to the folder where the mouse driver is located.

Q7 When installing Windows Mediaplayer to 7.1 on my S-4546 with Chinese WinME, the system displayed an error message prompting that there was a conflict between the ATI video driver and media player. How do I resolve this issue?
A7 Update to the S-4572/S-4562 Video Driver.

Q8 My LifeBook S-4562 (with CD-RW), cannot view VCDs even after installation of Video Driver. Is there anything I missed out in the installation process?
A8 To View VCDs you need a VCD Player. For your model, you can use the Windows MediaPlayer to View VCD. Open the Windows MediaPlayer and select VCD files from the CD Drive. Then start playing the VCD.

Q9 The infrared connection on my LifeBook S-4542 is not working. Seems like the driver is not installed. Where can I download a new driver?
A9 The OS already has the driver which supports Infrared. If you are installing with Win 2000 OS, the infrared icon from the control panel is called Wireless Link. The infrared icon will pop-up on the taskbar if there is another infrared device linked to the system.

Q10 I would like to have the PMSET driver for my LifeBook S-452 using Windows 2000 Pro.
A10 PMSET is not designed for Windows 2000, thus PMSET is not available for this operating system. Please contact the service centre to obtain the correct modem driver for your LifeBook S-452 that is compatible with Windows 2000.

Q11 I tried to upgrade Windows XP for my LifeBook S-4510 but I lack the latest Audio driver and DVD driver. Also my Norton Antivirus 7.5 Real Time Protection does not work and I am unable to play DVD using Windows XP on my laptop.
A11 All drivers installed on the Windows XP are by default, except for one "Unknown device", which requires the driver to be installed. The driver can be downloaded from the following web site:
http://www.pc-ap.fujitsu.com/drivers/others/lb_uty_ops/acpi/xp/acpi.exe

The Audio driver is installed by default and does not require a reboot to activate the sound device. The Windows DVD player version for Windows XP is 3.1 from Intervideo (http://www.intervideo.com/), Norton Anti-Virus Version 2002 support for Windows XP.

Q12 I need to reformat my LifeBook S-4532 but I have lost my Recovery disk. When I tried to download the drivers from the Fujitsu website (http://www.fujitsu.com), the zip file did not contain any setup or *.exe files. Is it possible for me to get a new Recovery CD for my LifeBook?
A12 LifeBook S-4532 sold by Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific does not come with Recovery CD. Instead it has a generic Windows 98 CD, which enables you to re-install your Windows 98 if you need to. After you have re-installed your Windows 98, use the Composite/Driver CD to re-install your device driver or utility software.

We strongly encourage users to re-install Windows 98 in the event that the system fails to start up at all. Under normal circumstances, the system usually hangs due to a particular application, which can then be easily rectified by simply uninstalling that particular application.

The website you are referring to is for Fujitsu products from the US and not the Fujitsu PC Asia website.

You may refer to the Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific website below:

Q13 The following error messages appear when I use the Windows 2000 ATI Video Driver for my LifeBook S-4546 which was downloaded from the Fujitsu website:
1. The WDM Video Audio Crossbar (ATIBar) application failed to start.
2. The WDM Video TVAudio Crossbar (ATITVSnd) application failed to start.
3. The WDM Video Capture For AIW (AtiBt829) application failed to start.
A13 The error messages indicate that the Video capture function is not available and that the function is disabled on the Video card. This is just a false error message on the event viewer in Windows 2000 and will not affect the system performance.

Q14 I installed Windows XP Home Edition in my LifeBook S-4562. After that, the scroll button on my mouse stopped working. The touch pad and its left and right clicks still work fine.

I used to be able to see the green illuminated adjustment bar on the screen whenever I adjust the volume or brightness in Windows ME but it is not visible now. During installation, an error message reported that the Yamaha AC-XG driver is not compatible with the operating system:
"Software That Does Not Support Windows XP. Setup has found programs on your computer that are incompatible with Windows XP. Contact your software vendors to obtain updates or Windows XP-compatible versions. If you do not update these programs before you upgrade, the programs will not work after the upgrade is completed. Yamaha AC-XG (in Control Panel)"

Are there any updated drivers compatible with Windows XP?
A14 Please install the Hotkey Utility to replace the Battery Aid for the green menu bar when you reduce the volume. Prior to that, update the driver for the 'Unknown device' with the ACPI driver. Please refer to our website under 'LifeBook Drivers'. Select 'LifeBook Utility and Options Driver' to look for the above utility application. For the scroll button, you will need to update the default driver.
