Why is SP1 information not shown with the Hardware Diagnostic Tool? |
| A2 |
Only Hardware Diagnostic Tool version 5.1.4735.07 and above will show SP1 information. There is no functionality issue. |
| Q3 |
Why does two identical logon user IDs appear on the Windows Vista® login screen after SP1 is installed? |
| A3 |

The installed version of the Omnipass conflicts with the SP1. To resolve this issue, backup the user profile data, download and install OmniPass upgrade version 5.00.91C from our website, http://www.pc-ap.fujitsu.com/drivers/Winter07/fingerprint/5_00_91C_Webupdate.zip.

| Q4 |
After installing SP1, the Volume icon sometimes becomes a red X (output device disappears after SP1 setup) and Volume control will sometimes disappear. |
| A4 |
This is due to the audio application being in conflict with the Vista SP1. To resolve this issue, Plug in ear phones to jack and restart the computer. The problem will be rectified after restart. |

Will
running the Windows Vista® Recovery DVD result in the reformatting of the C & D Drives on the hard disk? |
| A5 |
Running the Windows Vista® Recovery
DVDs released from May 2007 - Oct 2007 will result in the reformatting of the C & D Drives on the hard disk, thus deleting all data in the C & D Drives.
The affected Windows Vista® Recovery DVDs
are listed as below:-

I perform a recovery. |
| A7 |
Re-adjust your screen resolution after recovery.
Click Start->Control Panel->Display. Then click Settings tab and select your resolution. |
| Q8 |
Is
there any LifeBook with Linux pre-installed? |
| A8 |
No.
LifeBook models are not pre-installed with Linux. |
| Q9 |
My
encrypted data using finger sensor is not accessible after I
perform a Windows recovery? |
| A9 |
Please
export your finger sensor profile to external storage before
doing a recovery, else encrypted data is not recoverable even
the same username, password and fingers are used (after the
recovery). |
| Q10 |
How
can I reformat my hard disk during recovery? |
| A10 |
When you reboot from recovery CD, the system will offer you
an option to initialize or repartition your hard disk. If you
proceed, the format option will allow you to reformat the hard
disk. |
| Q11 |
My favourite program does not work after recovery. |
| A11 |
The
recovery process will restore Windows and Fujitsu specific drivers
and utility. Third party programs need to be reinstalled after
recovery. |
| Q12 |
My Fujitsu LifeBook
sometimes displays the following problems:
1. The cursor always changes its position suddenly while editing.
2. Part of the text is highlighted suddenly while editing. |
| A12 |
The above occur due to
users accidentally touching the Touch Pad during typing. To
disable the Touch Pad while typing, do the following: Find Control
Panel in the Start Menu, go to Mouse, then to Mouse Properties.
Select Tapping, then Typing. Check the checkbox - "Tap
off when typing". This setting will disable the Touch Pad
while you are typing. It may be re-enabled by un-checking the
checkbox. |
| Q13 |
There is a large
file called save2dsk.bin on my hard drive. Can I safely move
this file or even delete it? How do I move file with the Defrag
Programme? |
| A13 |
This is a hidden file
for Power Management, to enable saving to disk. If you delete
this file you will then be unable to use the "save to disk"
function. If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows ME, then
this file is not necessary. This file cannot be moved to other
drives, it must remain in the C drive only. Defrag Programs
are used only to defrag the HDD. The file can be deleted using
Windows Explorer: in Folder Options, select Show All Files Including
Hidden Files. Select the file and Delete. |
| Q14 |
After
installing Windows ME, the Infrared function could no longer
be used. |
| A14 |
In Windows ME, the Infrared Icon will only appear on the Taskbar
when the system detected another Infrared device. The Infrared
Icon will be called Wireless Link in the Control Panel. To check:
in the System Device Manager, you should see Infrared Devices.
|
| Q15 |
If
a Fujitsu LifeBook can support Windows 2000, does that automatically
mean it can support NT? If not, could you send me a list of
LifeBook series that support NT. |
| A15 |
The LifeBook is tested on Windows 2000 which is designed using
the NT platform. NT 4.0 is not a Plug and Play OS application,
meaning it will not support the following devices: USB, Infrared,
Power Management, PCMCIA. Windows 2000 is Plug and Play OS,
and can support all these devices. Our list of the LifeBook
series that support NT can be found at our website .
|
| Q16 |
All
the programmes in my Windows 98 are missing after I deleted
some unknown items. |
| A16 |
You may have deleted the Win98 OS files. You need to reload
the OS.
|
| Q17 |
Do
you know where we can download the BIOS update for Biblo B110
(Win2000)? |
| A17 |
If this model is installed with Windows 2000, it is not necessary
to install the BIOS update. Biblo notebook is available in Japan
and not the Asia Pacific Region.

| Q18 |
I
have encountered frequent system freeze when using my LifeBook.
How do I solve the problem? Is there any opportunity for my
system to be upgraded to Windows 2000 or Windows XP? |
| A18 |
With regards to the system's frequent freezing, this may be
due to some software problems. You may wish to leave your machine
with the service centre for 1 or 2 days for our personnel to
monitor the activity of the machine. With regards to changing
the Operating System from Windows ME to either Windows XP or
Windows 2000, you may do so by buying the licensed software
from other retailers.

| Q19 |
My
LifeBook has Windows ME pre-installed. I discovered that there
was only one partition in the hard disk. Other applications
may easily interfere with the operation system when installed
in the same drive. Moreover, a single 20GB Hard Drive renders
the cluster of the hard disk quite large, which is a waste of
storage space. Is there a way for me to further partition the
hard disk, or Fujitsu able to help with it? Finally
I must install a software in order to do my research, but
it can only run on the Windows NT/2000 platform. May I install
another OS into this notebook? If yes, please advise the steps
to do so.
|
| A19 |
The default factory setting is to utilize the full partition
of the hard disk. There is a utility that can re-partition your
hard disk. You can purchase the 'Partition Magic' utility application
to do this without reformatting your hard disk. We advise you
to backup your important data before performing the re-partition;
this is to avoid any errors from occurring during the process.
We advise you to install
Windows 2000, because Windows 2000 is able to support Plug
N Play devices and can detect all your hardware whereas Windows
NT is non-Plug N Play, and hardware that uses USB, Infrared
and Power Management may not be compatible with the latter.
You can make your system
'dual-boot' ready, meaning that you can have two operating
systems in your notebook. You can either boot-up with Windows
ME or Windows 2000. To create the 'dual-boot' function, first
you must have Windows ME installed, then you can install Windows
2000 by placing the Windows 2000 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
The program will auto-run and a pop-up set-up screen will
ask you to upgrade your existing OS or perform a fresh installation.
You may choose to perform a fresh installation and follow
the on-screen instructions (depending on what Windows 2000
version you are using). After that, install the Windows 2000
drivers using the Software Drive CD.

| Q20 |
My
system always freezes at the Windows start-up screen. Is there
any method to solve it or do I need to upgrade Windows? I am
currently using Windows ME. |
| A20 |
When you start up your system and Windows freezes, it could
be due to some application causing this problem. You may have
to disable some of the start-up programs that you have previously
installed and try again. Please contact the nearest service
centre if the problem persists.
|
| Q21 |
How
do I remove some of the startup programs to free up more resources
to run other applications? |
| A21 |
- Click on 'Start'
- Select 'Run'
- In the 'Run' dialog box type 'msconfig' and click 'OK'
- The 'System Configuration Utility' menu will pop-up.
- Select 'Startup'. All the startup programs will show on
the list. You can uncheck some of the programs so that they
will be disabled during the system boot-up.
|
| Q22 |
I
tried to install Linux onto my PC and dual boot it with the
Windows ME that came with my laptop. After installation, I was
unable to boot up using Windows ME. The recovery CD-ROM and
the Windows boot disk were also unable to boot up my system. |
| A22 |
This model is not tested
with Linux and there is no Linux driver support. For more information
about using Linux on notebooks and PCs, you may refer to this
website: .
As for using the CD-ROM to boot-up, you may need to set the
'Boot' sequence to start 'CD-ROM', 'Floppy' and 'HDD' under
the system BIOS. Alternatively, when the system is booting
up, press F12 and select which device you wish to use to boot-up.
The LifeBook user guide does not mention about the booting
up with Linux. For dual boot, make sure the partition is set
correctly between the Windows 98 and Linux partition.

| Q24 |
Why
am I unable to find the Ethernet adapter application in Windows
98 or Windows 2000 or Windows XP each time I shut down and switch
on the computer? |
| A24 |
The default setting of
the LAN card is set to 'Auto' in the BIOS. If the LAN card is
set to 'Auto' and no network activity is detected, or if the
LAN cable is plugged into the LAN card, it will not show on
the 'Device Manager'. If you plug in the LAN cable or network
activity, the LAN card icon will be shown on the 'Device Manager'.
Once you have installed the LAN driver, you don't need to re-install
it. To avoid this, set your LAN controller to 'Always Enable'.
|
| Q25 |
Why
does the system configuration of my laptop indicate that the
memory is only 255MB when it should be 256MB as stated in the
catalogue specification? |
| A25 |
The memory reported by
Windows is an estimate. Sometime the RAM is reserved (normally
1 MB) by Bios for video information, and thus, Windows will
reflect less memory than the physical RAM. To check your physical
RAM, press F2 to enter your BIOS and look from the BIOS information
section. However, we do not encourage users to frequently access
their system BIOS because accidental changes to some settings
may cause some problems. |
| Q26 |
I
have followed the instructions from the CD-ROM to make a boot
disk, but the system indicated 'Invalid System Disk'. |
| A26 |
Please check if the system
files are copied. If not, use another system with Windows 98
loaded and run the system command to copy the system files over
the floppy. In C:\ type 'sys a:' and press the 'Enter' key.
The system files will be copied to your floppy disk.
|
| Q27 |
How
may I revert my system's OS to Windows ME in the future? I only
have the Windows ME Recovery CDROM. |
| A27 |
You can use the Recovery
CD to revert to Windows ME, but you risk potential data loss
if you do not perform the recovery carefully. Always choose
to recover the OS without formatting the system. But if you
install another OS, you may need to format the hard disk sometimes. |
