Q2 Can I use all my fingers as identified fingers in finger sensor?
A2 You can use a maximum of 2 fingers for the fingersensor identification.

Q3 I am unable to set my security panel user password.
A3 Supervisor password must be set before you configure a user password in Security Panel.

Q4 Why does my DVD drive have 4x changes of the region code?
A4 All Fujitsu LifeBook models have their DVD drive pre-set at factory to read DVD titles with region codes for specific Asia Pacific markets (e.g. code 3 for Asian, code 4 for Australia, code 6 for China). The first time you play a DVD title with a region code different from the default set, you will be prompted to change the region code of the DVD optical drive. The region code of a DVD optical drive can be changed up to 4 times, after which it will be locked so that the DVD optical drive can only play DVD titles of the final region code set.

A5 Due to the high level of security, the removal of passwords can only be performed at an authorized Fujitsu Service Center. Pleas note that there will be charges incurred. Please contact your authorized distributor and provide the proof of purchase.

Q6 Can I upgrade my LifeBook to the fastest available CPU?
A6 The processor cannot be upgraded since it is embedded on the motherboard.

Q7 I am concerned by the noise generated from the fan of the LifeBook. Why are there noises when the fan is in operation?
A7 The fan noise is due to the operation of the CPU Cooler device.

With the increase in heat dissipation from microprocessor devices and the reduction in overall notebook size form factors, thermal management becomes a more and more important element of electronic product design.

Both the performance reliability and life expectancy of the system are inversely related to the component temperature of the equipment.

The relationship between the reliability and the operating temperature of a typical microprocessor device shows that a reduction in the temperature corresponds to an exponential increase in the reliability and life expectancy of the device.

Therefore, long life and reliable performance of a microprocessor may be achieved by effectively controlling the device operating temperature within the limits set by the device design engineers, such as an efficient heat sink & cooler fan are designed to facilitate the cooling of the CPU.

As a result to provide an efficient cooling, the cooling fan may rotate at the speed of approximately 5000 RPM, which emits a noise level of 20 to 25 dB-A, in accordance with the Intel Microprocessor thermal design specification.

Q8 How do I extend the lifespan of my battery?
A8

Please note that batteries are consumable products and their lifespan will deplete upon usage. However, here are some useful tips on extending your battery lifespan.

Proper Battery Care & Use
Your new battery comes in a discharged condition and must be charged before use (refer to your computer manual for charging instructions). Upon initial use (or after a prolonged storage period) the battery may require three to four charge/discharge cycles before achieving maximum capacity.

When charging the battery for the first time your computer may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal phenomenon with rechargeable batteries. Simply remove the battery from the computer and repeat the charging procedure. It is important to condition (fully discharge and then fully charge) the battery every two to three weeks. Failure to do so may significantly shorten the battery's life (this does not apply to Li-Ion batteries, which do not require conditioning).

To discharge, simply run your device under the battery's power until it shuts down or until you get a low battery warning. Then recharge the battery as instructed in your user's manual.

Avoid these:
- Do not short-circuit a battery. A short-circuit may cause severe damage to the battery.
- Do not drop, hit or otherwise abuse the battery as this may result in the exposure of the cell contents, which are corrosive.
- Do not expose the battery to moisture or rain.
- Keep battery away from fire or other sources of extreme heat.
- Do not incinerate. Exposure of battery to extreme heat may result in an explosion.

Lithium Ion type of Rechargeable Batteries: Li-Ion has quickly become the emerging standard for portable power in consumer devices. Li-Ion batteries produce the same energy as NiMHbatteries but weigh approximately 35% less. This is crucial in notebook computers, where the battery makes up a significant portion of the device's weight. Another reason Li-Ion batteries have become so popular is that they do not suffer from the memory effect AT ALL. They are also better for the environment because they don't contain toxic materials such as Cadmium or Mercury.

Battery Not Charging
New batteries are shipped in a discharged condition and must be charged before use. We generally recommend an overnight charge (approximately twelve hours). Rechargeable batteries should be cycled -fully charged and then fully discharged -2 to 4 times initially to allow them to reach their full capacity.

- (Note: It is perfectly normal for a battery to become warm when touched during charging and discharging). New batteries are difficult to be charged; at times it has never been fully charged. Sometimes your device's charger will stop charging a new battery before it is fully charged - If this happens, simply remove the battery from your notebook and then re-insert it. The charge cycle should begin again. This may happen several times during your first battery charge. Do not worry; it is perfectly normal.

Maximising Performance
The following practices will ensure maximum battery performance:
"Breaking In" New Batteries - New batteries come in a discharged condition and must be fully charged before use. It is recommended that you fully charge and discharge your new battery two to four times to allow it to reach its maximum rated capacity.

Keep Your Batteries Clean - It is a good idea to clean dirty battery contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol. This helps maintain a good connection between the battery and your portable device.

Exercise Your Battery - Do not leave your battery dormant for long periods of time. We recommend using the battery at least once every two to three weeks. If a battery has not been used for a long period of time, perform the new battery "break in" procedure described above.

Battery Storage and Power Conservation Battery Storage - If you do not plan on using the battery for a month or more, we recommend storing it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects. Li-Ion batteries will self-discharge during storage.

For Notebook Users - To get maximum performance from your battery, fully optimise the notebook's power management features prior to use. Power management is a trade off: better power conservation in exchange for lesser computer performance. The power management system conserves battery power by setting the processor to run at a slower speed, dimming the screen, spinning down the hard drive and optical drive when it's not in use and causing the machine to go into sleep mode when inactive.

*Note*: Perform a Battery conditioning discharge and charging once a month.

Caring for your Batteries

  • Always handle batteries carefully.
  • Do not short-circuit the battery terminals (that is, do not touch both terminals with a metal object). Do not carry lose batteries in a pocket or purse where they may mix with coins, keys, or other metal objects. Doing so may cause an explosion or fire.
  • Do not drop, puncture, disassemble, mutilate or incinerate the battery.
  • Recharge batteries only as described in this manual and only in ventilated areas.
  • Do not leave batteries in hot locations for more than a day or two. Intense heat can shorten battery life.
  • Do not leave a battery in storage for longer than 6 months without recharging it.

Increasing Battery Life

  • Power your LifeBook notebook through the AC or optional auto/airline adapter whenever possible.
  • If your LifeBook notebook is running on battery power all day, connect it to the AC adapter overnight to recharge the battery.
  • Keep brightness to the lowest level comfortable.
  • Set the power management for maximum battery life.
  • Put your LifeBook notebook in Suspend mode when it is turned on and you are not actually using it.
  • Limit your DVD/CD-RW/CD-ROM access.
  • Disable the Windows CD automatic insertion function.
  • Always use fully charged batteries.
  • Eject PCMCIA cards when not in use.
Q9 What are the common causes of a computer system failure?
A9 Electronics devices inclusive of PC & Notebook Computers, likewise are subjected to the following environmental conditions, that at times, if it is not taken with good care, will cause hardware to fail in time to come.

Some common causes of the computer system failure include:

A. Power Surges and Brownouts
Computers are susceptible to sudden surges or drops in electrical line voltage. Depending on the importance of the data being processed, efforts should be made to shield the computer from these variations.

Prevention: Electronic devices ranging from inexpensive surge processors to uninterruptible power supplies are available to provide the level of protection required.

B. Temperature
While a personal computer is some what insensitive to its environment, some attention to the environment will pro-long the life and increase the safety of data stored in the machine. Operating your system under extreme temperature will cause system to fail prematurely.

Prevention: Ensure enough ventilation, and adequate temperature control.

C. Foreign Materials
Establish and enforce firm, consistent policies regarding the presence of food, drink, smoke, and dust in the computer room.

System operating under extreme smoke and dust environment, will cause system to breakdown prematurely.
