Fujitsu Awarded Notebook Tenders by NUS, NTU and SMU
Singapore, July 12, 2002
Students and teaching staff of Singapore's universities will soon
be able to enjoy a whole new learning experience, thanks to Fujitsu.
The Fujitsu LifeBook has been chosen by the National University
of Singapore (NUS), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and
the Singapore Management University (SMU) as a premier educational
tool for students and lecturers alike.
Mr Alex Leung, COO, Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific, said:
"We are delighted to have received this official recognition
of Fujitsu LifeBook as the preferred learning companion of educators
and students. The award-winning Fujitsu LifeBook is equipped with
leading-edge mobile computing technologies, offering superior design
and a full array of advanced features and accessories that cater
well for demanding teaching and educational tasks. Built to meet
the varying needs of corporate professionals, the LifeBook S, C
and E series will also offer our students the same powerful functions
and attention to detail that is the distinctive mark of all Fujitsu
products."
The Fujitsu LifeBook is one of the most popular notebook
brands used by the academics and students of many renowned universities
and tertiary institutions in Japan and Europe. NUS, NTU and SMU
are set to join the ranks of these institutions, which use the LifeBook
to conduct lessons as well as academic research.
Explained Mr Leung: "The Singapore education
system - already recognized globally as one of Asia's best - is
undergoing radical changes as Singapore migrates to a knowledge-based
economy. The use of technology in making the learning process more
effective and interactive is also increasing in tandem with these
changes. Fujitsu's LifeBook will play an invaluable part in assisting
students in their learning and understanding of creative thinking
concepts."
Students and teachers from the three local universities
will be able to choose from the multimedia LifeBook C series, the
ultra-thin portable LifeBook S series or the top-of-the-line LifeBook
E series.
The C series offers a whole host of multimedia features
for work and entertainment. From surfing the Internet for research
materials, to instant messaging, ICQ and email, to creating and
viewing movie clips and DVDs, the LifeBook C series is the ultimate
multimedia companion. Its large screen translates to a better viewing
experience while its full sized keyboard gives users maximum comfort.
Sleek, slim and lightweight, the LifeBook S series
is designed for students on the run from classroom to lecture hall
and back to the lab. The S series possesses an efficiently compact
profile that offers mobility without compromising on performance
and features. Its modular slot concept allows students to quickly
swap between various customisable options such as different optical
drives, or even switch to a second battery anytime, anywhere.
Fujitsu's flagship LifeBook E series is a high performance
notebook of unrivalled sophistication and excellence. Equipped with
Pentium® 4 processor of 1.6GHz, large storage capacity of 30GB,
32MB DDR graphics card, CD-R/RW Drive and InfraRed capabilities,
the E series is suitable for heavy computing and research tasks.
The Fujitsu LifeBook will be the sole brand of notebooks
available for purchase on campus by the academia and students of
SMU, and one of two brands available for purchase by students and
academic staff of NUS and NTU under each institution's respective
student loan schemes. This is the second year running that Fujitsu
has been awarded the NUS tender, while the NTU tender was called
for the very first time this year. Positive student feedback coupled
with Fujitsu's high quality products and service standards are some
of the reasons cited for the tender wins.
An estimated 5000 units of LifeBook notebooks
are expected to be purchased by staff and students of the 3 universities
upon commencement of the academic term in July 2002.
