New
IEEE 1394 Connectivity
Singapore, November 1, 2001
- Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific has enhanced the corporate favourite
LifeBook S series with a larger LCD display, FireWire connectivity,
enhanced audio support yet still managing to make it lighter!
The S series meets the needs of performance-conscious mobile
users who want all-round capability for work and play. Battery
performance has also been lengthened up to 7.9 hours*.
Larger Viewing Area, Same Form Factor
The LCD screen has been extended to the rim. At 13.3 inches,
the high-resolution XGA display affords more comfortable
viewing and blazes the way for more professional corporate
presentations. Amazingly, the notebook becomes even lighter
now. A svelte 1.7 kg, the S series is now available in an
edgier silver finish, complete with a matching port replicator.
Faster Data Transfer
This new season's LifeBook S series boasts IEEE 1394 'FireWire'
connectivity, letting the user whip footage from videocam
to laptop at high speeds of up to 400Mbps. Be it for leisure
or work purposes, the new S series does not disappoint,
giving great on-the-road performance with its booster shot
of doubled video RAM.
Security
The Security Panel located just above the keyboard comes
with a mind-boggling 800,000-combination password capability.
Four of the same buttons are also programmable by the user
for instant Internet connection and email applications,
as well as other user-preferred applications.
Multi-tasking Capability for Work and
Play
The LifeBook S-5582 series addresses the trade-off in weight
versus feature by its modular design. Called the Mobile
Slot, the S series notebook can take on the capabilities
of ultra long life (2nd battery), entertainment (DVD), practicality
(CD-R/RW), and storage (SuperDisk).
Entertainment and Backup Options
The Fujitsu LifeBook S-5582 comes equipped with a 3-in-1-combo
drive (DVD-ROM/ CD-R/RW /CD-ROM), enabling its users to
back up crucial data or transfer large volumes of information
cost-effectively. With the addition of the IEEE 1394 'FireWire'
port for high-speed data transfer, the LifeBook S series
now claims true end-to-end capability to edit video and
create VCDs on-the-go.
More Speed, More Power
This combination of performance and portability in the S
series is delivered through the use of Intel®'s power-saving
processor, the Mobile Pentium® III Processor-M, supporting
SpeedStep® technology. It runs up to 800MHz with 512KB
secondary cache integrated and a 256MB SDRAM. Video RAM
has been increased to 8MB, thus enhancing the playback of
various video formats such as DVD or streaming video. The
LifeBook S-5582 can pack up to 30GB of work, fun and games.
Connectivity
The LifeBook S series both come with integrated LAN and
modem, leaving the PC card slot free for additional connectivity
options such as the Fujitsu Bluetooth PC Card. The
LifeBook also supports two USBs.
Enhanced User Experience
Despite the small A4-file size, Fujitsu's emphasis on user-friendliness
and ergonomics are apparent in the full-sized keyboard.
The Mobile Slot features a catch located at the side of
the notebook which allows the modular option to pop out
whilst the notebook is placed in a horizontal position.
This is an important convenience feature as the user does
not have to interrupt his work by tilting the notebook into
an awkward position to change modular options.
